Security and confidentiality are obviously of major importance to the
functionality and success of our website and have been major influences in
choosing both the site design and function.
HealthRecordsOnline has taken a number of security measures to ensure that
data submitted remains secure and accessible only by the individual member,
or those persons granted access by the member. At present
HealthRecordsOnline uses security software which exceeds that required by
most financial institutions in North America.
We suggest you consider security issues when accessing your data.
- Practice safe computer hygiene!
- Use passwords, a firewall, virus scanning and intrusion detection software on your system.
- Do not use public computers to access sensitive data, instead use computers with limited access by others.
- Delete the temporary Internet files, cookies and pages viewed history from your web browser to further protect privacy.
- Remember to close your web browser. Log off from your computer.
- Consider who may have to access to your computer after you leave.
Our website uses encryption and the Secure Socket Layer system (SSL128 bit)
to ensure that all health data submitted remains private and secure.
- All health information transmitted to and from our web server is encrypted.
- All health data submitted to a member's record is stored in an encrypted format.
- The servers that house HealthRecordsOnline are secure, and accessible only by employees of HealthRecordsOnline or those technical personnel directly involved with maintenance of the site.
- The Internet can be a hostile place and technically no data can ever be guaranteed 100% secure from unwanted intrusion. However with all things, individuals must balance the potential risks against potential benefits.
- HealthRecordsOnline believes that the potential advantages of the Internet outweigh the potential risks. The website will notify individuals of breeches that become known to us and will upgrade security measures as and when viable technical advances become available.
- Much like your bankcard PIN number we recommend that you never disclose your individual member access codes to any other person as this can allow unrestricted access to your account.
- Your Physician access codes might be carried on your person, then, in the event of an emergency that prevents you giving these to the attending doctor personally, your health data would still be available.
- Following your recovery or in the event of loss, you would merely have to change the Physician access codes to control access to your records once more.
User Name and Password security.
- Protect your account by choosing your member access User Name, Password and Key Phrase, with care. Choose non-obvious passwords.
- Mixing numbers with letters, using both lower case and capitals, will increase the strength of your passwords. Take care that people are not able to watch you enter your passwords.
- Your data is stored on our servers in an encrypted format using a key generated from your Key Phrase. This provides an extremely high level of security. It also requires that you remember your access data.
- Your Key Phrase is unique and will protect your data accordingly. However if you forget your Key Phrase, your data will be irretrievable.
Should you forget either your members area user name or password, security
measures prevent HealthRecordsOnline.com from re-issuing others to an
account. Your account will remain inactive until deleted by the server's
dormant account measures.
Should you wish to continue to use HealthRecordsOnline, you would then have
to re-build a record, a potentially long and time-consuming process.
We decided to take these measures to increase the level of protection for all of our members.
